Welcome to Let’s Get Ready to Read!  It is critical in the early years of life that children develop early literacy skills.  It will impact their reading achievement and academic success.  Parents are the child’s first teacher.  This blog will help parents find tips, books, nursery rhymes, songs, and activities to do with your child to develop early literacy.

Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR) was developed by the Association for Library Service for Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA).  It has designed a program that names the early literacy practices necessary for children to develop in order to be ready to read once they enter school.  Those five (5) early practices are Reading, Singing, Talking, Playing and Writing.

This blog credits ECRR with providing the research and background for this blog.  You will find tips, storytimes, book recommendations along with songs and movement to do with your child in order to incorporate the early literacy practices into your daily life.
